Basis of Support
Great example in this before and after animation of my client shifting his weight and reorienting his lower leg and feet moving toward more equal weight distribution into the ground. He is moving to his right to left and in the after picture the left leg is taking on similar weight as his right and his head moves right to left down the centerline of his body. His lower left leg moves so that his gastrocnemius goes to the back of the lower leg where it belongs as his left foot moves more medial and more aligned. There is a shift in his right lower leg, and it has less lateral rotation of the foot and lower leg. Ideally, we are looking to get equal weight going down each leg.
More about the "Line"
In Rolfing we are trying to establish the most verticality with support that has equal amounts of body mass behind and in front of this imaginary lateral line which is not a plumb line and is different for everyone. In this before and after animation from a single session you can see less flexion in his thigh and that brings his waistline back and lengthens his neck and maintains his vison toward the horizon without creating too much flexion or extension in his neck. This movement reveals in the after picture an equal amount of body mass forward and behind this imaginary lateral line. My client reports that even small shifts are helpful in his regular workout routine.
Rotations
Nice movement in my client in a before and after animation from a single session showing rotation movement in the pelvis. As my clients left foot turns medially his gastrocnemius of the lower left leg moves to a better position on the back of the calf, is less medially rotated and his left leg is more supportive. His pelvis is moving right to left posteriorly. His rotation continues up the spine and is more clearly seen down the centerline of his body. His right shoulder girdle rotates back as his left shoulder girdle moves forward. Helping clients move toward more integration in their structures is what I am dedicated to at Rolfing Iowa!
Refining the Line
Very nice shift in this before and after picture from a single session. Establishing a better lateral line that is easily seen. Lessening the flexion in the thighs allows the waistline to come back and the core to engage creating lift as the lumbar and thoracic spine lengthens and her head is better positioned on top of her shoulder girdle.
